How much bandwidth is used during a session?

The amount of bandwidth that GoToMeeting uses during a session will vary depending on the features that are being used. For example, screen sharing will use more bandwidth during a PowerPoint presentation with multiple slide changes than it will when a single image is being shown. In general, you can estimate the amount of bandwidth a session will require using these data-usage averages:

  • Webcam sharing (HDFaces) = 700 Kbps (0.7 Mbps)
  • Screen sharing = 40 Kbps (0.04 Mbps)
  • Computer audio (VoIP) = 40 Kbps (0.04 Mbps)

In general, it's recommended that you have at least 1 Mbps of bandwidth available if you plan to use all 3 of those features during a session. Less bandwidth will still work, but the session performance may suffer because of it. More bandwidth will provide a superior experience.
