What are direct connections?

The Direct Connections feature can potentially improve in-session performance by making a connection directly between your client computer and your host computer, allowing the majority of the screen-sharing and other in-session data to bypass the GoToMyPC communications servers but remain secured by GoToMyPC's end-to-end encryptionx.

What are the differences between the Direct Connections options?

There are 3 settings for Direct Connections.

• Allowed between Any Two Computers: Attempts a direct connection between the client computer and host computer, even if it must traverse firewalls or NAT devices between the computers. If a direct connection can't be established, then the connection through the GoToMyPC communication servers handles the screen-sharing and other in-session data.
• Only Allowed within Your Network: Attempts a direct connection between the client computer and the host computer without traversing firewalls or NAT devices. This setting only works if both computers are on the same LAN or have public IP addresses. If a direct connection can't be established, then the connection through the GoToMyPC communication servers handles the screen-sharing and other in-session data.
• Not Allowed: Disables direct connection attempts and the connection through the GoToMyPC communication servers handles the screen-sharing and other in-session data.

Are there any security risks associated with Direct Connections?

The data transmitted through Direct Connections is protected with the same end-to-end encryption that GoToMyPC always uses.

Is the Direct Connections feature available for my Mac?

While you can establish a direct connection between your Mac client and an enabled host PC, you cannot currently establish a direct connection to a Mac host.

Does the Direct Connections feature work with firewalls?

Direct Connections often works with firewalls, because it starts via an outgoing signal. However, because the feature establishes an incoming connection, some firewalls may block Direct Connections or give you a warning message asking for your permission to allow it. If Direct Connections is blocked, the session will simply continue using the initial connection through the communication server.
