Setting Up Dashboards

GoToAssist dashboards help you maximize your performance by providing cognitive, visual tools that widen your span of control over a rich variety of data. Your dashboards help you monitor the current state of each of your sites, keeping track of server health, network performance, inventory, and more. Your dashboards can spotlight the issues most vital for you, help you visually identify patterns and trends, and identify anomalies so you can troubleshoot them quickly.

You can choose from a rich assortment of preset dashboards shared by the GoToAssist community, or customize your own to present precisely what you want to see. By arranging a dashboard to display the top-priority information at a glance, you can create a virtual NOC (Network Operation Center) that puts this data at your fingertips. And as the Crawler continues to report fresh data, the dashboard updates automatically.

You can also add applications directly to your dashboard as panels, such as the GoToAssist Inventory or GoToAssist Alerting applications.

Find a dashboard

You can use shared dashboards and customize them to display your top-priority data at a glance, such as server health, network performance, and much more. As your Crawler continues to report fresh data, your dashboard updates automatically.

When you use shared dashboards, you use only the shared search syntax and layout, not data. Likewise when you share a dashboard you have created with the GoToAssist user community, you share the query syntax and layout, not your own data. The shared syntax looks for and identifies a specific kind of data, such as available disk space or available memory, and the shared layout displays your data in a dashboard.

To find and use a shared dashboard

1. In the Monitoring pull-down menu, click Dashboards:

2. In the Dashboards pull-down menu, click the Find dashboards arrow:

3. Select a dashboard from the pull-down menu, and wait as it populates with the data from your Crawler (depending on the data being collected, population can take up to 24 hours):

4. If you choose multiple dashboards, you can navigate between them using the tabs along the top row:

5. You can click the Actions to manage this dashboard:

  • Change Title – In the edit window you can change the dashboard name.
  • Update Dashboard Share-it – Click to refresh the panel with the latest data from your Crawler:
  • Discuss this Share-it – Join the GoToAssist user community to ask questions or share your dashboard ideas:
  • Add Application – Choose from the list of available applications:
  • Switch to Dashboard – Choose from the list of existing dashboards, or create a new one:
  • Number of Columns – Choose from 1 to 6 columns to display, depending on the number of panels:
  • Auto Refresh – Set the refresh frequency from 1 to 15 minutes to automatically update the dashboard. You can also turn the Auto Refresh off:
  • Create New Dashboard – Click to add a new dashboard to your site.
  • Delete This Dashboard – Click to remove this dashboard from your site. Note: This action is irreversible.

Create a new dashboard

You can custom-build your own dashboard to display precisely what you want to see by selecting a complete pre-set dashboard or by adding individual panels. Then you can customize and arrange them to display your top-priority data at a glance, such as server health, network performance, inventory, and so on. Any search that you run can also be converted into a dashboard panel. Simply choose Add to Dashboard from the Search menu.

Remember, as your GoToAssist Crawler continues to report fresh data, your dashboard updates automatically. You might consider setting your Crawler to gather data from your primary servers and network equipment more often than the default of every 15 minutes.
