Connection Preferences

The Connection preferences enable you to configure your direct connection and, if directed to by a service agent, test the status of your host computer connection.

Connection Test

To ensure a valid connection test, we advise that you refrain from testing your connections unless a GoToMyPC customer-support representative directs you to perform the connection test.

  • Test Connection: Attempts to communicate with GoToMyPC servers to verify connectivity issues.

Direct Connections

The Direct Connections feature can potentially improve in-session performance by making a connection directly between your client computer and your host computer, allowing the majority of the screen-sharing and other in-session data to bypass the GoToMyPC communication servers but remain secured by GoToMyPC’s end-to-end encryption. See Direct Connections for more information.

  • Allowed between Any Two Computers: Attempts a direct connection between the client computer and host computer, even if it must traverse firewalls or NAT devices between the computers. If a direct connection can't be established, then the connection through the GoToMyPC communication servers handles the screen-sharing and other in-session data.
  • Only Allowed within Your Network: Attempts a direct connection between the client computer and the host computer without traversing firewalls or NAT devices. This setting only works if both computers are on the same LAN or have public IP addresses. If a direct connection can't be established, then the connection through the GoToMyPC communication servers handles the screen-sharing and other in-session data.
  • Not Allowed: Disables direct connection attempts, and the connection through the GoToMyPC communication servers handles the screen-sharing and other in-session data.

Setting preferences for Mac computers is not available at this time.
